Bitter Cold Wind Chills and Some Snow on Thursday

Special Weather Statement
West Tennessee Weather Online Jackson TN

...Snow and Bitterly Cold Wind Chills Coming to the Region on Thursday...

Bitterly cold wind chills and snow are still in the forecast Thursday.  Actually the cold front will be arriving this afternoon with the coldest air about 3 hours behind the boundary.  An upper level weather system coming in from the west that will form a surface low tracking from Louisiana to Georgia.will each contribute to wintry weather Thursday morning.

The latest model concensus remains about the same as late yesterday's solution. The precipitation is likely to begin in West TN...up to I-40...by dawn.  Across the counties bordering Mississippi...precipitation should begin briefly as a wintry mix of sleet, snow and freezing rain. By mid-morning most counties should be seeing just light snow. The accumulating snow will end by mid-day Thursday. At this time snow accumulations should be around 1-inch. Possibly producing sllick spots on bridges and overpasses and untreated roads.

The Winter Storm Severity Index is a new tool imployed by the Weather Prediction Center and the NWS, It has six impact levels ranging from 0 (No impact) to 6 (Extreme impact). The WSSI for this system ranked as a 2 (minor impact) which means that this will result in an inconvenience to daily life.
