Winter Weather Outlook - Arctic Blast Monday and Tuesday

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
WEST TENNESSEE WEATHER ONLINE JACKSON TN
919 AM CST SAT NOV 9 2019

...Arctic Blast Expected to Bring Record Cold Early Next Week and a Little Snow...

Enjoy this weekend because a major blast of arctic air will invade West TN beginning Monday.  Rain will begin Monday morning as the arctic front begins its slice into the area.  It will be passing I-40 before noon and the rest of West TN by mid-afternoon. Below is a break-down of the impacts on the area from Monday into Tuesday.

* PRECIPITATION...Rain should fall through the day.  As the cold air pours into the region the far northern counties may begin to see a wintry mix that will begin to show up in the I-40 corridor by sunset. Meanwhile by sunset counties north of I-40 will have light snow.  Temperatures will be near freezing over most areas by mid-evening with the northern counties below freezing. Areas south of I-40 should be seeing light snow by mid-evening. As moisture diminishes most precipitation after midnight will be flurries.

* IMPACTS FROM PRECIPITATION... There should be little or no impacts from this event.  Ground temperatures are in the 50s so any accumulation to elevated objects and grassy areas.  As mentioned temperatures will be dropping below freezing certainly by midnight and any water on elevated roadways...like bridges and overpasses... that does not dry up may form black ice.  Thus those traveling late Monday night need to be aware of that potential.

* WIND CHILL... Dangerous wind chill values are expected on Tuesday morning.  Winds of 15-25 mph around sunrise Tuesday coupled with air temperatures possibly near 20 degrees will result in wind chill values in the single digits.  Wind chills will be around 20 degrees throughout the day.

* IMPACTS FROM WIND CHILLS...Tuesday morning wind chills in the single digits will require those who will be outside to take necessary steps to protect the skin and lungs from the extreme cold.

*TEMPERATURES...By Tuesday morning we will realize a 24-hour temperatures change of 25 to 30 degrees.  If Jackson does not get above freezing Tuesday it will be earliest on record for that to happen.   The previous record was November 14th of last year!
