A weather system coming out of the southwest US and colder air expected to settle over the area may contribute to possible snow accumulations north of I-40. The precipitation is expected to begin Wednesday morning and could begin as rain/snow mix mainly south of the interstate. Across the northern counties...north of I-40...the precipitation could begin as light snow and continue on and off through the day. As outlined in the map below current projections of accumulation appears to 1/2 to 1" north of I-40 and lesser amounts across the south if at all.
Temperatures will remain in the 30s throughout the event across the north. So that if there are any impacts it would be the bridges and overpasses after sunset. As temperatures head down to the low to mid 20s Wednesday night...any standing water on the roadways...but especially bridges and overpasses...will turn into black ice.
WTWO will be monitoring the latest data and post any changes in the forecast.
