Heavy Rainfall Threat Increases by Thursday

Special Weather Statement
West Tennessee Weather Online Jackson TN
725 AM CDT TUE JUL 28 2020

...HEAVY RAINFALL POTENTIAL IS INCREASING FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT...

The heavy rainfall threat is increasing for the latter half of the week into the weekend.  Right now all of West TN is in line for 3 to 6 inches of rain through Saturday night.  There will be heavier amounts in localized areas.

A frontal boundary is expected to be draped across the northern portions of West Tennessee and will be the focus for increased rain chances and locally heavy rain.  Today the main area for the locally heavy rain will be along the front...which will affect the counties north of the I-40 corridor.

Wednesday...tropical moisture will be spreading over the area from the south. That fact and the heat of the day and possibly the frontal boundary in the neighborhood will increase the chance for localized heavy rain.

Wednesday night and Thursday...an upper-level disturbance moving in from the west will exacerbate the situation. There are signals that up to 2 inches of rain in a 6-hr period over the western half of the I-40 corridor through mid-morning Thursday.  Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms will occur in the Friday through Saturday time-frame.

The potential impacts will be: (1) elevated levels on area rivers, streams, and creeks; and (2) localized flooding/flash flooding.

Future statements will be posted as conditions warrant.
